Humility

Jesus was the perfect example of humility and serving others.  He lived his life putting others first and living a life of humility and service rather than with pride as the Son of God.  Read how God honors humility.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of others.”  Philippians 2:3-4

“But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”  Mark 10:31

“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders.  All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble’ ”  I Peter 5:5-7

“For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.”  Psalm 149:4

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’ ”  I Peter 5:5b

“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”  Proverbs 22:4

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”  1 Peter 5:6

Pride

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced wealth for me.’  But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”  Deuteronomy 8:17-18a

“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”  Matthew 23:12

“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  Luke 14:11

“If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.  Each one should test their own actions”  Galatians 6:3-4

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  James 4:6b

“This is what the Lord says:  ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this:  that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord.”  Jeremiah 9:23-24
