Money – Greed

It seems we never have enough money.  The more we have, the more we want.  Money in and of itself isn’t the problem.  It becomes a problem when we love money and place too much emphasis on it.  God knows what you treasure most in your life.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21

“So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”  Luke 16:11

“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.  This too is meaningless.”  Ecclesiastes 5:10

“Do not be overawed when other grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.”  Psalms 49:16-17

Can’t serve both God and money

“No one can serve two masters.  Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money.”  Matthew 6:24

“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?  Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”  Matthew 16:26

“Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.”  Proverbs 15:16

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.  Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”  1 Timothy 6:10

“Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.”  Proverbs 11:28

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.”  Hebrews 13:5a

Put your hope in God; not money

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”  I Timothy 6:17-18

“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”  Deuteronomy 15:10

“Remember this:  Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”  2 Corinthians 9:6

“…the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”  Acts 20:35b

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.  Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will ot throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.'”  Malachi 3:10
