Jesus’ death

How can we know that Jesus was really God’s Son and that he died and rose again.  Many were eye witnesses to the events surrounding Jesus’ death.  Even the Roman centurion that stood at the cross after seeing the events unfold acknowledged that surely this was the Son of God.
