Jesus was dead. All they could do for him now was to anoint his body but who will roll the stone away?
He is not here
“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.”
‘Don’t be alarmed’, he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.’ Mark 16:1-6
He has risen!
Can you imagine the emotions the women must have felt when they arrived at the tomb and not only was the stone rolled away and the tomb is empty but an angel tells them that Jesus is not here. He has risen! So much had happened. Surely their minds are racing back to the words Jesus had told them about leaving them but coming back to life in three days. And then…the confusion and bewilderment slowly turns to joy as they realize what has really happened.
This is how it should be with us. Even though life is confusing and sometimes the circumstances are difficult to bear, we can always remember that the stone was rolled away. Jesus is not among the dead. No he rose to give us new life. A life full of joy even in life’s most difficult circumstances. If you don’t know this Jesus and the joy he offers, please look over our Find God pathway. We make Finding God easy without all of the rituals and religion. Just a relationship with Jesus.
